In a world where everyone is racing to make entire sectors more sustainable, the same barriers apply: cost, time and complexity. The WA Department of Transport asked Anthologie to help break through these blockers delivering a solution that wouldn’t just inform, but actively enable change.

We were engaged to create a central digital platform that could unify, amplify and educate suppliers and Government about sustainable transport practices, what’s available, best practices and global exemplars. The goal was to cut through confusion, and quickly build shared capability across Government, industry and local councils.  

While other states had launched similar initiatives, WA needed something different: a tailored, industry-led solution, built to reflect the unique policy, procurement & circular economy landscape in a state that has unique challenges in geography, costs and supply chains.  

The challenge

  • There was a lack of clarity and consistency around sustainability requirements across the various stakeholders. Confusion, choice paralysis and even contradictory advice plagued the transfer or knowledge.  
  • There was resistance from sectors, who were also forced to focus on short-term cost and delivery pressures.  
  • Most people were dealing with a fragmented ecosystem with few case studies, little shared knowledge, and no centralised resource. 

The opportunity? To create a tool that could turn policy into action fostering long-term behaviour change, knowledge-sharing, and a more aligned, informed sector.

First we listen

Every Anthologie project starts by listening – deeply and intentionally.
We led a series of co-design workshops with diverse stakeholders across Government, industry and local council, from sustainability professionals to project managers and procurement. Through facilitated mapping and discovery, we identified:
  • Issues around awareness and understanding across the sustainability procurement landscape
  • Critical information gaps in policy documentation
  • Inconsistencies across Transport Departments
  • A need for both transparency and urgency
  • A need for industry collaboration and contribution
This process aligned stakeholders around a shared goal: to make sustainable infrastructure more accessible, achievable and aligned across WA.

CircleZero: A platform for impact 

The result was CircleZero – a dynamic brand and digital platform purpose-built to drive clarity, consistency and capability in sustainable transport infrastructure. The name and accompanying design system was created to balance technical credibility with a simple, clear story. The circle embodies the idea of a central hub, which aligns with the platform’s role as a centralised source of information and resources. 

The visual language and iconography are designed to reflect progress, growth, and transformation. Where imagery was limited or under-spec, we introduced subtle blurring treatments to create a clean, cohesive visual experience bringing together hundreds of datasets, diagrams and supplied imagery in a professional and consistent way.

Built to scale, designed for action

CircleZero is an integrated, future-proof platform built to evolve with the sector. Technical highlights:

  • Built on Payload Headless CMS with a Next.js frontend, deployed on AWS for high performance, scalability, and government-grade security and compliance.
  • Mobile-responsive, WCAG-compliant design for clarity, accessibility and inclusivity across all devices.
  • Modular, component-based architecture ensures scalability and easy maintenance.
  • Structured content types and filtered navigation simplify access to complex technical data.

Key platform features

  • Interactive supplier map powered by Mapbox, enabling users to explore local and regional suppliers via advanced filtering. Suppliers can add or update listings via secure forms, keeping the directory up-to-date.

  • Dynamic case studies library: users can browse innovation trials and projects by application, material type, transport mode and region. The submission process is streamlined via secure, multi-page forms, generating CMS drafts for editorial review, accelerating sector-wide knowledge-sharing.

  • Visual guides linking policies directly to detailed materials fact sheets, bridging the gap between technical data and real-world application.

  • Training and events hub, featuring live listings with timezone-aware scheduling, calendar integration, and virtual links keeping the industry connected to the latest developments.

  • Integrated analytics via Google Analytics and Tag Manager for continuous performance monitoring and optimisation.

CircleZero translates complex sustainability knowledge into clear, actionable resources empowering government, industry and local councils to move from awareness to action.
